Car body repair covers anything that has damaged the outside of your vehicle: dents, scuffs, cracked bumpers, scratched panels, kerbed trim, and the paint over all of it. At one end it is a mark you could cover with your hand. At the other it is accident repairs after a collision, where a panel is cut out and replaced and the vehicle is measured back to the manufacturer's own tolerances.
Our body shop handles the full range of body repairs on cars and on vans, and the bodywork standard is the same whichever it is.
Most of what arrives at our Birmingham workshop sits somewhere between the two.
There is no useful average, because two dents of the same size can differ by hundreds of pounds. What drives the cost of the repair is how many panels are involved, whether the paint has been broken, and how far the colour has to be blended into the bodywork either side to stay invisible.
A scuffed bumper corner is a different job from a dented door with a crease through the body line. Send a few photos and your registration and you get a free quote in writing before anything starts, with nothing to sign. If it is easier, bring the vehicle to the Birmingham workshop and we will look at it with you.
A bumper or a single panel is usually a matter of days rather than weeks once the vehicle is with us. Larger accident repairs turn on parts: something we can source locally moves quickly, something on back order from the manufacturer does not, and we tell you which it is when we quote rather than after the vehicle is stripped.
Paint also needs curing time that cannot be rushed without the finish suffering, which is the part most people underestimate when they have been promised a day.
Repairing the original panel is usually the better answer, and not only on cost. Factory panels are bonded, welded and aligned in ways a replacement has to reproduce, and restoring one keeps the vehicle's original metal underneath.
Replacement earns its place when the damage has stretched or torn the metal beyond what can be brought back true, or where a crease runs straight through a body line. We tell you which one your vehicle needs and why, and you see the reasoning before you commit to anything.
Bumper repairs are the most common car body repair through the workshop. Modern bumpers are plastic and absorb exactly the sort of low-speed knock that happens in car parks, so most can be repaired and refinished rather than replaced.
Minor scratches and scuffs are often a localised repair too: only the affected area is prepared and refinished, then blended out, so you are not paying to restore a whole panel. Whether that works depends on how deep the damage has gone, and we will say so honestly before any work starts on the car.
Not every repair needs the full body shop treatment. Smaller dent repairs can often be lifted without touching the paint at all, and scratch removal is usually localised. Kerbed wheels go through alloy wheel refurbishment rather than being replaced.
We also take vans and light commercials, scheduled around your working week, with signwriting reinstated where the damage disturbed it. Tell us what has happened and we will point you at the right one of our services, even when that is the cheaper option. All of these services run from the same Birmingham workshop, and the same hands do the bodywork.
We take accident repairs on insurance and privately, and the standard does not change between them. As a Birmingham accident repair centre we handle the claim and the repair end to end, fault or non-fault, including the conversation with your insurer. On a non-fault claim there is no excess for you to find, and the repair is recovered from the other driver's insurer.
Worth knowing that your insurer can recommend a repairer but cannot insist on one, so you choose where your vehicle is repaired. If you would rather keep insurers out of it, paying privately avoids a claim on your record entirely, and it is quoted exactly the same way. Either route, you choose the repairer, and we restore the car to the same standard.
It depends entirely on the damage. Send a few photos and your registration and we will give you a fast, no-obligation estimate for the repair.
